Printer error: Out of Paper

  • Restart the Printer: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for a minute or two, and then plug it back in and turn it on. This can sometimes clear minor glitches in the printer's system.

  • Check Paper Placement: Make sure the paper is loaded correctly in the paper tray. Ensure that the paper guides are adjusted snugly against the paper stack, preventing the paper from shifting.

  • Paper Type and Size Settings: Confirm that the printer settings match the type and size of the paper you're using. Sometimes, mismatched settings can cause the printer to think there's no paper.

  • Paper Thickness Lever: Some printers have a lever or slider to adjust for different paper thicknesses. Make sure this lever is set correctly for the type of paper you're using.

  • Paper Tray Sensor: There might be a sensor in the paper tray area that detects the presence of paper. It's possible that this sensor is malfunctioning. Gently check for any debris or foreign objects that might be blocking the sensor.

  • Clean the Rollers: Over time, paper dust and debris can accumulate on the rollers, causing paper feed problems. Gently clean the rollers with a lint-free cloth and a small amount of water if necessary.

  • Update Drivers: Make sure the printer's drivers on your devices are up to date. Sometimes, outdated software can cause communication issues and errors.

  • Reset the Printer: Click the setup icon, scroll down to Printer Maintenance, scroll down to restore, and tap on Restore Factory Defaults to perform a factory reset. This can help resolve any internal software issues causing the error.

  • Update the Printer's Firmware: Upload the latest firmware patch from the manufacturer's website to the printer. This can help resolve known issues that have since been addressed by the manufacturer.
